Bowron Sheepskins was established in 1879 by brothers George and William Bowron. They were master tanners from Yorkshire, England, who set sail to the new colony of New Zealand to start their own tannery in the South Island settlement of Christchurch. The Canterbury region where Christchurch is situated is renowned for its fertile pastures and quality sheep flocks. Bowron grew steadily until the 1990s when they introduced the ‘Whitan Process’ to tanning which saw improvements in quality and a reduction in its environmental impact. With more than 100 years of experience, Bowron Sheepskins continues to make some of the best premium-grade sheepskin products in the world.
