Description

A living fossil!

In Maori Tuatara means ‘peaks on the back’, which makes reference to the spiky crest running along the back of the Tuatara lizard. Although the Tuatara resembles many lizards, it is actually the only surviving member of the order Rhynchocephalia, which flourished around 200 million years ago.

Some unique aspects of the Tuatara lizard is its third eye, which is still subject to research, and its ability to hear despite possessing no external ear. Tuataras also reproduce at an incredibly slow rate, reaching maturity at ten years and laying eggs only once every two to five years. Tuatara lizards live on average for about 60 years, but it is not uncommon for them to live well past 100 years of age.

The Tuatara Soft Toy with Sound would make an ideal birthday gift or Christmas gift for a child who is obsessed with reptiles and animals.
