Quality Shiraz Cabernet by Wolf Blass Australia Ð the proud winemakers of South Australia

With fruit from Robe and Mt Benson vineyards, Grey Label Shiraz Cabernet hails from cool, maritime climates typical of the Southern Ocean. This produces fruit with intense flavour and wine with lush mid-palate and fine tannins. After crushing, individual parcels are fermented in small batch open fermenters. Plunging and careful pumping optimised colour and flavour extraction, producing richness and depth. Finally parcels were placed in American and French Oak barrels with individual parcels separated until final blending.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS:

Good winter rains were followed by a warm, dry spring resulting in an excellent growing season. The thirteen day heat wave in late January and early February across most of South Eastern Australia was of lesser impact in the cooler coastal regions. As a result the regions of Robe and Mt Benson produced red wines of exceptional quality compared to the traditional Grey Label regions of McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. Cool and dry conditions during berry ripening in most of the district were conductive to excellent flavour, colour and phenolic development.

MATURATION:

This wine was matured for 18 months in new and seasoned French (50%) & American (50%) Oak.

COLOUR :

Deep vibrant purple.

NOSE:

The nose displays intense aromas of rich black and red berry fruits, plums, rhubarb, spice and black pepper supported by underlying notes of restrained fragrant oak.

PALATE:

Complex palate of layered flavours led by intense raspberries, mulberry and plum, supported with liquorice and chocolate. The seamless concentrated palate is lengthened by a fine acid and tannin structure with subtle spice, resulting in a wine of great power and elegance.
