Unique to New Zealand
Tui is the Maori term for the New Zealand Parson Bird. This bird has small wings that require rapid flapping inflight and generates a loud sound. It is now commonly called the Tui, but it was once known as the Parson bird because of its black appearance from a distance and the small tuft of white feathers on its neck that caused it to resemble the clerical dressing of a parson.
