Ti-Toki Liqueur has its roots in Maori mythology as it was said the Patupaiarehe, fairy-like beings that live in the forests and mountains, drunk a beverage distilled from Ti-toki berries to warm themselves and toast friendship. The modern Ti-toki liqueur was the creation of a New Zealand winemaker in the 1970s, who was inspired by the native vegetation of New Zealand. It took three years of experimentation with ti-toki berries and other native ingredients such as kawakawa and manuka leaf before a worthy beverage was finally concocted. The resulting liqueur was then bottled in an ornamental tekoteko ceramic decanter and named 'Ti-toki Liqueur'. Today, Ti-toki Liqueur continues to maintain the same smooth flavors and distinctive aroma that so impressed its creator.
